These are my top priorities .

Save Our Hospital.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center is probably the most valuable asset in our county. It not only provides medical care for our region it also employs nearly 7000 people. Time and again, in places where public hospitals have been sold, costs to patients have gone up, and quality of care has gone down. If we sell the hospital, we can never get it back. We cannot afford to give up control of our hospital unless there is no other viable option to keep the doors open.

Save WAVE. Expand WAVE.

New Hanover County deserves a robust public transportation system, but we cannot build such a system with the current funding structure for WAVE. I will work with the WAVE Board of Directors to develop a long-term set of transportation goals and devise a dedicated funding source to ensure that we can meet those goals.

Protect our Green Spaces and Wetlands.

We live in the most beautiful place in the world, but if we don’t work to protect our natural environment we could lose that. We need to work closely with residents, developers, engineers, and environmental groups to ensure that as we inevitably grow, we do so in a way that preserves our natural environment and our way of life.

Make NHC Government Open and Transparent.

Our government exists to serve the people of New Hanover County. I pledge to do everything in my power to make meetings and processes accessible to the public.

My first act as Commissioner will be to move to reschedule the meetings currently held at 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM so that more citizens may attend. Next I will move to reinstate regular agenda meetings and to televise these meetings as well.
